Prayer Shawls
Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice, offering comfort and solace, as well as celebration and joy. The shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. Upon completion, during worship, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it on to someone else in need. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of God! We have shared 800 shawls with friends and family, as well as people we do not know. The shawls can be crocheted or knitted.
Spreading Warmth
This year we provided 180 chemo hats and 60 lap blankets to our local cancer treatment center at St. Mary’s Hospital. The hats and blankets not only provide warmth for those who are having chemotherapy, they also let them know that they are not alone. We care about each and every one of them with God by our side.
Pocket prayer shawls
Pocket prayer shawls (smaller version of a prayer shawl)
The purpose of the pocket prayer shawl is to provide feelings of comfort, support and closeness to God. They fit nicely in a pocket, purse or backpack, and can travel with you.
A little hug from God to carry you through your day.
These are always available in the back of the sanctuary, feel free to take as many as you need to share with others.
